7 DAYS IN MYKONOS

After 3 months of working hard on my new flat I decided a family girly break was in order. After a wonderful trip to Mykonos last year I jumped on the EasyJet website to check out flights. With a fantastic price of £101.00 for a return flight to Mykonos (Booked December 2015) I quickly phoned my mum, aunt and sister to see if they wanted to go. Flights booked and bags packed we headed to Greece.

About Mykonos:

Mykonos is a picturesque little Greek island in the Aegean sea. Imagine; Boutique hotels, helicopters flying from island to island, quaint little white churches with sky blue roof tops, white washed buildings, fushia pink flowers, clear blue sky's with crystal clear waters, sandy beaches, light winds, twisty roads and traditional windmills.

Over the past few years this little Island has become very popular particularly with the more sophisticated of party goers, shopping lovers, couples in search of romance, the wealthy and the yacht life jetset. The island has so much to offer with  plenty of beautiful restaurants and bars and of recent years the addition of top London night clubs such as Bonbonniere & China White have even set up shop there. Mykonos town is like a treasure chest of luxe clothing boutiques selling the best designer clothing along with more traditional stores selling handmade soaps and trinkets and leather shoes and bags, there is also a real art gallery scene in the cobbled streets of Mykonos Town.

I would recommend the island of Mykonos to most people. It is LGBT friendly, it would be great for couples and families alike and it is safe enough for lone travellers too, and would make a great hen / stag party location along with a breathtaking wedding island.

Check out how many blue hearts each of the spots I visited during my  trip to this incredible island get 💙

💙💙💙💙The Bellissimo Hotel

We stayed at a lovely quaint family run Boutique hotel called the 'Bellissimo Hotel'In Aigos Ioannis. The hotel only has 14  rooms and they are white washed and spotlessly clean with all the basics covered. Fluffy white towels, beach towels, safe, fridge, tea and coffee facility and comfy white wicker cushioned furniture on the large balcony over looking the cool fresh salt water pool with stunning sea views. Breakfast is included and consisted of coffee, tea, juice, bacon, sausage, eggs, bread and pastry selection, whole fruit, cereal, meats & cheese & sweet cakes. What was on offer was yummy but I would say that with breakfast is I felt some more  hot choices for veggies were needed for example mushrooms & grilled tomato should be added. Also the juice on offer was squash instead of fresh juice which would have been nice. The food in the restaurant is lovely my favourites being the caprese salad, feta bruschetta and the traditional Greek dish chicken slovaki. They even offer room service!

The sun beds are comfy the food is fresh and the owners are adorable and the location is perfect. I would definitely recommend it!

Beach / Lunch Spot Recommendations:

💙💙Hippie Fish - Based on Aigos Ioannis beach Hippie Fish specialises in sea food. The restaurant offers more formal lunch & dinner dining and they also offer a lovely beach menu which does great club sandwiches and some stunning cocktails which are yummy too! My favourite being the Pina Colada! The Sun beds are very pricey here at €20 per bed including towels 😱 and the wifi isn't great😩. It is one of the least windy beaches on the island which is a massive plus point if you don't enjoy getting sand blasted which is a regular occurrence on a lot of the beaches in Mykonos. The music is super laid back and very much easy listening, think acoustic versions of your favourite pop songs! My only issue with Hippie Fish is two years running now the service has been painfully slow so go prepared to exercise your patience.

💙💙💙Pasaji- This spot is based in Ornos; an area nice to visit during the day if you want a lively but still relaxed and low key day. Think Marbella type vibe! The Pasaji sun beds are priced at €11.00 per bed but do not include towels so bring your own or you will be hit with a whopping €10.00 towel hire charge. The music here is very Ibiza chill out when the DJ starts at 11am it then turns commercial house as the day draws to a close, I found myself dancing in the sea singing along quite a few times. The water is lovely and clear, the bathrooms are spotless and they have a picturesque dinning area. I wasn't at all impressed with the beach food but the cocktails were nice but a little pricey. Pasaji also has a very cool Moroccan style Shisha lounge which is very popular, but I've definitely had better flavoured Shisha elsewhere and at €30.00 per pipe it was over priced.

💙💙💙💙💙Buddha Bar Beach Club at The Santa Marina resort-Imagine heaven meets paradise... Yep you've landed on the stunning jetty at the Santa Marina Resort and home of the famous Buddha Bar & restaurant .

Think.... sandy beaches, infinity pools, your own private pod beds for sunloungers, impeccable service, clear waters, stunning inventive cocktail menu, a view of super yachts and rubbing shoulders with a super elite clientele and of course the best restaurant in Mykonos. This location has it all and if your heading to Mykonos if you aren't blessed enough to stay here at least try to book a reservation at the Buddha Bar & Restaurant for a spot of lunch or dinner. The food was hands down the best on the entire island and we sampled a rather large portion of the menu. Fresh leafy salads, tomato and mozzarella salad, hummus, Greek salad, chicken salad, calamari, halloumi, pita and olive bread, quinoa and that was just the starters! Then for the mains we had Tuna Niçoise salad, five spice chicken with rice, chicken burgers with matchstick fries. The food was incredible; flavourful, perfectly cooked and well presented and the menu had imagination. The wine (Sauvignon Blanc) was light, crisp and chilled wonderfully and the service was 10/10. The view from the restaurant was so pretty I had to pinch myself. The Buddha bars decor and ambience alone tickles your senses and there is a DJ on hand both day and night to relax you with the sounds of Ibiza style chill out music. The food was so good and unlike most 5atar restaurants it was very filling and good portions... In fact we didn't even need dinner that night! I also developed a serious taste for Sauvignon Blanc that day.

💙💙💙Kapari Beach-

This beach is all about just that... The beach! The reason being is that its literally all it has to offer you. A unspoilt cove at the end of a little dirt track. You have to be fairly mobile to enjoy this beach as it requires a unsteady climb into and out of this cove. Locals have recently created little stepping stones to make it safer so a lot less of a scary climb this year than last. I would say unless you pack your cool bag filled with cold drinks and snacks you can probably only survive half a day here. There isn't a bathroom or any shade at all for that matter. It's a towel on the sand situation with rocks on each of the four corners to stop it blowing away. If you bring an umbrella it would need to stay quite low or it would also blow away and bring plenty of water. If you are a fan of topless sun bathing this is your spot as with it being off the beaten track, there isn't many people there and people seem not to care. We even saw a completely naked man sunbathing up in the rocks! 🙈😆 Its a fabulous photo spot but remember no wifi so it's radio silence whilst your there!

💙💙💙Pinky Beach-

Located on the other side of the island this beach is very windy but it gets busy so it's welcomed to keep you cool. Pinky beach is situated next to famous party beach Super paradise beach club and also a few metres from famous Gay beach bar Jackie O's

Pinky Beach is a glamorous spot with little touches like towels, people offering massage and call buttons on your umbrellas for food & drinks service. Both food and drinks here are of a high standard and the staff are super friendly. This spot is well located if you would like to mix up your vibe throughout the day. For example chill on Pinky beach until 5pm then from 5pm -8pm join the party goers over at Super Paradiae beach to soak up the party atmosphere.

The Dinner Spots...

💙💙💙💙 Uno Con Carne -

This place is uber chic, modern & feels expensive. With its all white romantic interior and draping pink flowers falling from the ceilings and delicate pink and purple mood lighting this venue is both pleasing on the eye, and it feels like a secret escape from the hustle and bustle of Mykonos Town that surrounds it. A DJ plays chilled out background  music through out the evening  and the standard of food and service is excellent. Flavourful and nicely sized portions. I sampled the steak which was cooked to perfection... We also shared two deserts between us, Oreo cheesecake and the banoffee pie both of which were home made and devinely flavoured and textures.

💙💙💙💙💙Buddha Bar -

DJ Mario Chaviaraz who is the resident DJ for Buddha bar in London is currently spending the summer season on the decks in Mykonos. The setting at night is even more special than in the day. As night falls the jetty lights up the sea and all the yachts lined up prove great people watching. The restaurant is full of beautiful Buddhas, ambient lighting, and the aroma of the best tasting cuisine on the island.

The very best Medusa Shisha is bubbling away at nearly every table, it tastes super delicious because of its unique infusion of alcohol and fresh fruit in the bubble jar. We opted for Malibu and Tropical fruit in our mix and it was soooo yummy!

Now traditionally I'm not a fan of white wine, I'm more of a red wine girl but the waiter introduced me to a gorgeous tasting Sauvingnon Blanc that ticked all the boxes. It was delicate, chilled to perfection, fruity and crisp and the nicest start to our evening. The cocktails are also beautifully presented and flavourful and the menu has plenty of fun choices to finish off the evening.
The food in this place is definitely the main event! It's pan asian fusion cuisine and I would go as far as to say it its hands down the best food on the island.

💙💙💙Kuzina

Kuzina is based in Ornos and is a lovely seafront option where you can literally dine with your feet in the sand if you like. The menu is varied and the food is fresh. I had some fantastic lamb chops with rocket and Parmesan salad, halloumi cheese and seasons fries, it was lush! If you're a sangria fan like me and my mum Kuzina offer the yummiest sangria in town with the largest glasses! This place is what I would call casual dining, tasty simple food with a lovely beach view.

Things to do...

💙💙💙💙💙 Sunset Yoga...

When on holiday the most exercise you will ever get out of me is walking and yoga. I wanted to find a  yoga class in Mykonos that was outdoors and took in the beauty of the island. I couldn't believe my luck when I found Yoga Mykonos (@yogamykonos). Yoga mykonos conduct a 1 hour yoga session on top of a little roof top that overlooks the whole of Mykonos a town. The view is absolutely incredible!

The yoga style was suitable for all ages and capabilities. I wouldn't say it was was the best yoga I have done in terms of flow, but the static poses made it easy to follow which is key in a group of mixed ability. The instructor was lovely and she often came around the group and helped adjust technique and aid the stretch. The yoga was timed perfectly it starts at 7.30pm, which means the sunset begins towards the end of the yoga session closing with a photo opportunity as the sun goes down.

Following the yoga practice we were invited to the 180 sunset bar. The sunset bar is a beautiful outdoor cocktail lounge overlooking the bay. The cocktails here were literally the BEST I sampled in Mykonos! The Pina colada is probably the best one I've had ever in life!!!! Lol

This was my second trip to Mykonos in two years and I rarely visit anywhere twice.

The island is so easy to reach with a 3.5 -4 hour flight time. Easy Jet flys there & transfer time is always less than 30 mins to your accommodation  (make sure your pre book your transfer). If you like to travel about then hire a car or a quad bike to get around as there is only 47 taxis on the entire island. We often had to wait 1 hour for a taxi home at times which in the early hours of the morning wasn't fun. I would definitely recommend this holiday to everyone as the island has so much to offer.

 Thank you  for reading 💙
